Ketchikan......where Jon worked in '97 & '98. It was nice to visit and not have to put in 18 hour work days. Times have changed.....when I was on the fishing boat we used to take the zodiac out and ride the cruise ship wakes. Now they have Coast Guard escorts with machine guns on the bows (see below).
We walked down to the old cannery Jon worked at and saw a couple old friends. Then we flagged down a cab and got lucky. The driver was a deck hand on a boat called the "Lovey Joann". Dave was his name and he knew the captain of the Haida Chief (jon's old boat). We talked it up for a while then he took us to Totem Bight State Park. Last but not least Jon stopped by the Totem Bar. The owner -- Vic Klose -- is the father of Kurtis Klose -- captain of the Haida Chief. Anyway.....Jon got to chat for a while with Vic (a town fishing legend) about Salmon, Boats, etc.....They treated us like family (as Jon told me they would) offering us water and beer. We came away with some Totem Bar T-Shirts. All in all it was an epic day. It was good to see all those good people still doing what they love -- and doing it with style.
